TEAM FIRE acquired a 512m sq piece of land from the land auctions. I erected four cubes at the corners and used that as a guide to build a platform that was just slightly smaller than my plot of land. Next I rezzed a cube on top (so i could sit on it comfortably) and then raised the linked platform and box combo to the height of over 1000m so less people would be there (IN THEORY). Some notes follow:
Finding lost objects in terrain
Had brief moment where I lost the very object that I was trying to move by shifting it too far into the terrain, which might happen if you are in a hilly part. Editing the terrain is slow and stupid, so please don't do that. You can activate the Advanced menu using Ctrl-Opt-D on a mac (probably Ctrl-Alt-D on a Windows computer) and deselect Advanced > Rendering > Types > SurfacePatch in order to see through the terrain and find your object.
Linking objects
You can link objects by selecting multiple objects and then pressing Ctrl-L to link all selected objects together, or Ctrl-Shift-L to delink objects.
Creating a Transporter
I was surprised to find other people already building at that level. I raised it to 2000m, and 3000m. OTHER PLATFORMS were visible in the distance!!! Finally I settled on about 2500m. Couldn't see anyone else from that level.
At 2000m and 3000m respectively
After that, it was time to build the teleporter. I tried two sit-and-teleport scripts but it would not take me to 2510m. Later I found out that the reason is that Sit Target teleports are not able to move you more than 300 metres on any axis. I tested this to be true, as I always ended up from a z-level of 100 to 400 max in this method....
Freefalling due to not teleporting to right height
Found a L$9 script for an "unlimited teleporter" and successfully rezzed up a working teleporter to 2500m in a minute. You can get it in the Marketplace and get it up and running in no time at all.
